My short story What Breaks a Man was listed in Other Distinguished Mystery and Suspense of 2021 in Best American Mystery and Suspense!
I couldn’t be happier to see The Becalmed included in the wonderful Visions of the Future StoryBundle! From this story’s origins on the beautiful Oregon Coast, to many touches of my home in the Appalachian Mountains, to seeing it with such brilliant company in this bundle, this truly has been an amazing journey.
This bundle is only available for a limited time, so pick yours up before it’s too late.
And read on for the ever-expanding worlds inside my head and Appalachia in Space!
I couldn’t be happier to have my story Restricted Species included in the Aliens Among Us StoryBundle! My tale of the perils of galactic agriculture keeps fantastic company with a bunch of my favorite writers, all with a different fascinating take on aliens.
I’ll let our curator Dean Wesley Smith tell you a little more about Restricted Species, and be sure to click through to read more about all the wonderful stories you can grab for a great low price. Plenty of chances for your next alien-forward reading escape, but be sure to check it out before time runs out!
“In this short novel, Restricted Species, Kari Kilgore takes us to a xeno-farming planet. Amazing how many things can go wrong on a simple farming planet when aliens get into the mix. And Kari keeps us reading right to the last detail.”
Read on for more about how Restricted Species came to life in my imagination, and pick up the whole bundle to enjoy your visits with aliens in all these amazing stories!
I love it when other writers post about their date-specific stories so I can check them out, but I forget to do that for the ones I’ve written. So I’m raising a glass of fine scotch whisky to that tradition here on Burns Night!
Soul Deep is a prequel short romance set in my Soul Travelers series, and it was an absolute treat to write. A sequel to the first novel Hand Me Downs may very well be appearing this year, too.
Another way my stories found their way into the world in 2021 was someone else publishing them first. These were professional sales, anthologies, and magazines. I figured I should mention these, because it was a pretty good year for this wonderful way of getting stories out into the world.
And also because I’m delighted and honored by the stellar company my words get to keep! And I have to say one of the best things about getting author copies is all the great reading I get to do.
For the stories I have rights back for, I’ve included links below. But for each and every one of these, my tales are made better by the amazing stories by wonderful writers around them. If you love short stories as much as I do, be sure to click through and pick up these fantastic publications.
2021 turned out to be the year I hit not one major goal, but two, with a little bit extra! I not only published a short story a week for 52 total, but I ended up writing 53 short stories. All that with twelve major publications and over half a million words written.
